Day 1- Your favorite song

So I’ve already written a post about my favorite song not all that long ago. But since I can rarely make up my mind about anything, I figured that I’m allowed to have a second favorite song and that’s the one I’ll write about here.

To be honest, a lot of my top songs (according to itunes) are from either Jack’s Mannequin or Something Corporate, but for the sake of this post I’m going to branch out a little.

Sweetness is one of those songs that has followed me for years. Actually, Jimmy Eat World as a whole has. I remember back in 8th or 9th grade when I would pull out my disc man (Oh God.) and listen to one of their biggest hits ‘the middle’ over and over and over again. It’s funny to look back that far because I actually had pretty decent taste in music even though I didn’t know it at the time.

There are a lot of Jimmy Eat World songs that really stand out for me but I chose this one as one of my favorites because I think it has one of the greatest memories to go along with it (for me). On July 1st 2008, they FINALLY came back to Montreal after years and years of not playing a show here. I FREAKED out and listened to them non stop until the day finally came. Me, Kate, Selina & Agnes got all dressed up and put some Canadian flags on our faces (it was Canada Day, we had to represent!) and had the greatest time ever at that show.

I think I told Agnes about a million times that when they played Sweetness I would literally just die of happiness. And that is pretty much exactly what happened. I just went through my youtube videos to find this one and when it started playing I got the biggest smile on my face. This whole concert still stands out as one of my Top 5 of all time.

The crowd went completely insane and you can just tell how happy they are to be on stage. Whenever I think of that show, I think of this song. We were jumping and singing SO LOUD. Everybody was. It’s just one of their songs that everyone knows the words to.

They need to come back and play a show nearby right now.

  1. I love that you’re doing this music challenge! Whenever I write about music (and I wish I could all the time!) I hear crickets!! I loved this album when it came out, My Sundown and May Angels Lead You In were lovely :)I have SO many favourite songs… but my favourite at this moment (which will probably change this time next week!) is a toss up between The Vaccines “If You Wanna” and The Naked and Famous “Young Blood” 🙂
